Can I use carpet padding for a foam pad when camping?

I have a bunch of the stuff and would rather not spend $30 on one. Can I use this stuff, and if not, where’s the best place to get one?

It might not last for long, and you might need to double-up for adequate insulation and comfort, but why not?

The reason why I think it wouldn’t last long is because the padding I’ve seen was made of sort of chunks of foam or loosely woven material, which is great for cushioning under carpeting, but will probably start falling apart after a few uses. Still, not a reason not to use it while it lasts if you have extra lying around.

Also, the padding I’ve seen was fairly thin, which is why you might want to double-up.

Try it out at home first so there’s no surprises at camp.
